Think Christmas Thoughts

On my day off (if parents have these), I find myself scraping muddy football boots with a toothbrush. The layers are so thick I'm practically digging in the dirt. Bleh... This would be the perfect moment to handover to the husband and say, "Awww, you two are so alike, both live and breathe football..." Cleaning boots is part of the fun, right? Well... he's at work today and there is a game in the morning, hey ho...

Muddy boots misery over, time to unwind. Hot chocolate in hand, a splash of Baileys would do nicely. I'll have to save that one for later since I'm on childcare duty. Swirling glitter lantern on. Browsing Christmas movies. Boom! "To escape a scandal, a bestselling author journeys to Scotland, where she falls in love with a castle - and faces off with the grumpy duke who owns it." Sign me up! If only children didn't play football around the house. No, they are not allowed, especially with all the Christmas ornaments up. They still do it, though.

Silly little problems aside, COVID-19 is threatening to ruin Christmas again! But I'm determined to think happy thoughts, Christmas thoughts... Especially ever since I've found out Omicron B is an anagram of NO CRIMBO!! Must indulge in any Christmas treat I can find, from toffee latte in my reindeer cup, through Christmas music, lights, cards, present-wrapping and more Christmas movie-watching. I'm sure there are many Christmas traditions I am yet to discover or create.

6th December brings a Christmas teaser. It is St Nicholas' Day and in several countries children (the well-behaved ones) wake up to little gifts under their pillows or in their shoes. St Nicholas who? you say. Saint Nicholas of Myra, the patron of sailors, merchants, thieves and children, who lived in the 3rd century. Known for his generosity to those in need, he later became the inspiration for the modern day Santa Claus.

We are working our way through the Advent calendar, and the countdown is definitely on. Let's take it one day at a time. With booster jab campaign in full swing, we have a good chance of a merry Christmas surrounded by friends and family.
